When Hon. Warren Knight (Ret.) founded Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services 35 years ago, alternative dispute resolution was a fairly new concept for many attorneys. Today, arbitration and mediation have become key features of litigation, thanks to the efforts of Judge Knight, Hon. Jack Trotter (Ret.) and many other neutrals who helped build the firm, now known as JAMS, from a one-man office to the world’s preeminent ADR service provider. The mixer is being held in conjunction with the American Bar Association’s Mediation Week, which aims to celebrate the strides the legal profession has made in institutionalizing mediation as one of several appropriate dispute resolution processes.
