In continued celebration of the HNBA’s 50th anniversary, the theme of this year’s HNBA/VIA's Annual Convention will be “Honoring Our Legacy”. The conference will bring together attorneys, judges, and law students from across the country, including public officials, business leaders, and General Counsels from many Fortune 100 and other corporations. High Stakes and Red Flags: The Growing Intersection between Compliance and Dispute Resolution

This panel will begin with a discussion, from a compliance officer’s perspective, of the corruption issues and other problems that often end in either arbitration or litigation. The program will then consider how such issues are dealt with in arbitration and litigation. This program will review practical measures that compliance officers can take for understanding and handling such problems and how arbitration and litigation practitioners can work with them to address such problems in the face of a dispute. The program will also consider the potential benefit of confidentiality in arbitration proceedings and the challenges of dealing with different cross-border regimes, in particular, those of Europe and Latin America.
