Harnessing Global Change to Propel Diversity in International Arbitration: New Initiatives and Opportunities (Presented by JAMS)
March 18, 2022 | 12:15 - 1:30 PM
Stakeholders in international arbitration seemingly agree that greater diversity is needed – but the question has been how to make it happen? Remote working has eliminated many of the challenges presented by geographic boundaries, creating access to a wider pool of arbitrators. What additional mechanisms are needed to produce and support the opportunities created by increased access, and what type of collaboration needs to exist between institutions, law firms, clients and practitioners to monitor progress? In a series of JAMS led programming in 2021, diverse stakeholders explored how action requires commitment and provided a platform for new initiatives to harness and propel global diversity efforts. In this 75 minute program, Amanda Lee, founder of #Careers in Arbitration, and author of a bold initiative for Shadowing in International Arbitration, Mark Smalls, JAMS Chief Marketing Officer, Laura Abrahamson and a panel of thought leaders will highlight concrete and innovative initiatives that institutions, law firms and clients in California and globally can take to increase representation in arbitration for practitioners of diverse background. The panel will also consider the impact that emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and increasingly sophisticated legal research tools have on diversity and the practice of international arbitration.
