FEATURED PANELS:

Navigating Ownership and Protection of Image Rights in the Age of AI
Thursday, November 14 | 3:00 – 4:15 P.M. | Middle Temple B

This panel will delve into the evolving copyright policies and regulations in the age of generative AI, focusing on how these policies will impact safeguarding athletes' performance and image rights amidst the rapidly changing landscape of the sports industry, where AI-driven piracy threatens their intellectual property. The panel discussion will cover the following:
  1. Divergent approaches to copyright infringement issues related to generative AI use (from the model training stage to the model usage stage, including prompts and the use of AI output) in the US, UK/EU, and Asia. The discussion will also explore whether AI-generated products can be copyrighted.
  2. The impact of these policy approaches on the image rights industry, including the ownership, infringement, and enforcement of AI-generated work (such as deep fakes and creator image rights). Additionally, it will highlight examples of evolving systems successfully deployed with the aid of AI to identify image and "look-alike" piracy.
  3. The best platform to resolve these issues, given the likely global and cross-border challenges arising from deployment. It will also consider whether ADR can offer cost-effective solutions to resolve conflicts and, if so, which ADR approach is likely to be the most effective tool.
