San Francisco – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Hon. John K. Stewart (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Stewart joins JAMS with decades of experience as a trial lawyer and trial court judge with the San Francisco Superior Court. Judge Stewart was appointed to the San Francisco Superior Court in 2000 and served 20 years with assignments in the civil and criminal divisions, juvenile hall and probate court, which included conservatorships, guardianships and the mental health court. He served as presiding judge of the Appellate Department and supervising judge of the Criminal Division, and he was elected presiding judge of the Superior Court in 2015.
Based in the San Francisco Resolution Center, Judge Stewart will serve as an arbitrator and mediator, handling disputes in business and commercial; construction defect; employment; estate, probate and trusts; insurance; personal injury and torts; professional liability; and real property.
Judge Stewart has earned a reputation for his comprehensive preparation and his fair and reasonable approach to resolving disputes. His ability to connect with the parties to get to the heart of the matter, along with his extensive knowledge of the law, will make him an excellent addition to our talented panel in San Francisco.
- Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO
Before his appointment to the bench, Judge Stewart gained experience in a wide variety of practice areas during his 35 years as a trial lawyer. He tried over 35 jury trials to verdict.
I’ve found that the most effective way to resolve disputes is through preparing effectively and working closely with both parties to deeply understand every element of the case. I’m ready to use my skills and experience in this new role as a JAMS neutral in San Francisco.
- Hon. John K. Stewart (Ret.), JAMS Mediator and Arbitrator
Judge Stewart received his B.A. from Denison University and his J.D. from Stanford Law School.
