Minneapolis – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Donald M. Lewis, Esq., to its panel. Mr. Lewis joins JAMS following a distinguished career as co-founder and shareholder of Nilan Johnson Lewis in Minneapolis. In this role, he focused his practice on complex employment litigation and internal investigations. His work also included white collar criminal defense, health care litigation and alternative dispute resolution.
Mr. Lewis began his career at the U. S. Department of Justice. He served as a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division in Washington, D.C., and then as an assistant U.S. attorney in Minneapolis. He continued his career as a shareholder and senior attorney at Popham Haik Schnobrich & Kaufman. During a five-year break from private practice, he served as dean of Hamline University School of Law. His work has also included serving as a board member and governance chair for HealthPartners and governance chair for Park Nicollet Health Services.
Based in the Minneapolis Resolution Center, Mr. Lewis will serve as an arbitrator and mediator, handling business/commercial, civil rights, class action/mass torts, education, employment, federal law, government/public agency and health care disputes. He is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for attorneys and their clients across the country.
Mr. Lewis’ has worn many hats throughout his career, helping to build a multifaceted skill set that parties rely on to help solve their most complex and critical disputes. His work has spanned a breadth of practice areas, with the common denominator being his strong ability to achieve successful outcomes for his clients.
- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO
Over the course of his career, Mr. Lewis has resolved critical and sensitive predicaments, often in public view, and his reputation has given credibility to the solutions he has crafted. As both an advocate and mediator, he has promoted early negotiated solutions as offering the best chance for maintaining business relationships, restoring faith in institutions, and improving personal well-being.
I’ve enjoyed an extraordinary, diverse career over 45 years—as a civil rights attorney, federal prosecutor, independent investigator, law school dean and health care director—that offers an interdisciplinary understanding and approach to resolving organizational and individual conflict. I’m eager to apply my experience and knowledge as I begin this new chapter as a neutral with JAMS.
- Donald M. Lewis, Esq.
Mr. Lewis received his B.S., with distinction, from Northwestern University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
