Los Angeles – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Philip E. Cook, Esq., has joined its panel. Mr. Cook joins JAMS with over 30 years of litigation and dispute resolution experience.
With over two decades of experience working as a multistate trial lawyer at the time, Mr. Cook founded Cook Mediation in 2015 in order to devote more of his time to mediating litigated disputes. Since 2004, he has served as a court-appointed settlement officer, mediator and early neutral evaluator for various courts, including the California Court of Appeal, the Los Angeles County Superior Court and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. In 2021, he began serving as a judge pro tem for the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Based in the Los Angeles Resolution Center, Mr. Cook will serve as an arbitrator, mediator, neutral evaluator and judge pro tem, handling business and commercial, class actions, employment, health care, insurance, intellectual property, products liability, real estate and real property, and securities matters. He is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients in California, across the country and internationally.
“Mr. Cook has litigated and mediated hundreds of matters across industries throughout his accomplished career as a lawyer. He is known for his technical background, keen intuition and legal acumen covering many areas of the law, which will serve him well as a JAMS neutral.”
Kimberly Taylor, JAMS CEO and president
Before attending law school, Mr. Cook spent 12 years in the computer and consumer electronics fields, working for Fortune 500 companies and on his own entrepreneurial ventures. After graduating from law school, he worked in private practice for many years, including almost twenty years at Jones Day and, most recently, at the firm he founded, The Cook Law Firm. His success in the courtroom runs the gamut of commercial litigation. He has tried cases before judges, juries, arbitrators and arbitration panels, and has argued appeals in both federal and state courts.
“Although I have loved my time in the courtroom, I understand the value of resolution without trial for the litigants. I’ve learned how to appreciate the different perspectives and challenges for the parties in each dispute. And I enjoy engaging with parties and their counsel to help them assess their case and explore alternative pathways forward,” said Mr. Cook. ”Throughout my career, it has been an honor to use my legal skill set to support parties embroiled in litigated disputes, and I look forward to continuing my career alongside JAMS’ panel of talented ADR professionals.”
Mr. Cook earned his B.A. from Pacific Christian College, now Hope University, and his J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law.
