Prof. Angela Downes, Esq., Honored With Top 50 Black Professionals and Entrepreneurs of Texas Award

Annual award recognizes trailblazers who have advanced their respective fields and inspired those around them

The honor was presented during the organization’s annual awards gala on February 15, celebrating Black excellence, innovation and the remarkable achievements of professionals, elected officials and entrepreneurs across the state.

In addition to serving as a JAMS panelist in Dallas, Professor Downes is a professor at the University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law, where she is assistant director of experimental education. She has worked in various legal roles throughout her career, including serving with Collin and Dallas counties’ district attorney’s offices, as the attorney for court programs at the national office of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and as a senior attorney at the National District Attorneys Association in Alexandria, Virginia.

In her role at JAMS, she serves as an arbitrator, mediator and facilitator, handling business and commercial, labor and employment, health care, higher education and Title IX, and insurance disputes. She is a recognized subject matter expert in interpersonal violence issues, providing training, policy advice and technical assistance to nonprofit agencies and state and local government officials.
