Hon. S. James Otero (Ret.) is a sought-after neutral at JAMS, known for his thorough preparation in a variety of high-value complex cases. Prior to joining JAMS, he served for 16 years as a federal and 14 years as a state court judge in Los Angeles, authoring precedent setting cases. Judge Otero has sat by designation on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and is one of only two Central District Court judges to have been invited to sit on the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. A graduate of Stanford Law School, Judge Otero started his career at the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. He then became regional counsel for Southern Pacific Transportation Company.
