Background and Education

Lish Whitson, Esq. joined JAMS after several decades as a successful civil trial attorney. During his career he represented both plaintiffs and defendants. He handled a great variety of cases with a wide range of clients, including individuals, families, small businesses, corporations, and government entities. He handled cases involving contract disputes, consumer class actions, all types of personal injury cases, including medical malpractice, motor vehicle accidents, plane crashes; and insurance disputes involving general liability coverage, as well as medical disability and commercial coverage. He also litigated matters involving intellectual property, administrative law and antitrust, criminal, defamation, environmental and real property law.

In addition, Mr. Whitson has served as a mediator and arbitrator for more than 30 years. He has also been asked to serve as a lead arbitrator on three person panels, as a court appointed special master and as a pro tem judge.

He is widely respected as a consummate professional, listening to the parties on both sides of each matter and fairly and efficiently following the facts and the law.

As an arbitrator, Mr. Whitson calls upon his depth of legal experience and knowledge to reach a reasoned decision. As a mediator, he is known for his thorough preparation prior to mediation and for working diligently with parties to reach an agreed upon settlement.

Mr. Whitson has held leadership positions in many legal, community and nonprofit organizations as noted below. The King County Bar Association awarded Mr. Whitson its 2000 outstanding lawyer award for his work representing women seeking insurance coverage for breast cancer treatment.
