Irvine, Calif. – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce the addition of Hon. Anna H. Demacopoulos (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Demacopoulos joins JAMS following 15 years of distinguished service to the Circuit Court of Cook County (Illinois) and over 20 years of service to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
During Judge Demacopoulos’ time serving in the Chancery Division, she handled a wide variety of matters, including class actions, confirmation of arbitral awards, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, insurance coverage, mortgage foreclosure, trusts, shareholder derivative actions and other business disputes. Among many professional affiliations, she’s the current president of the Order of Themis Hellenic Judges Associations, a former officer and board member of the Hellenic Bar Association of Illinois and a board member of the Illinois Judges Association.
Based in the Chicago Resolution Center, Judge Demacopoulos will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and court-appointed neutral, handling administrative law; arbitration; class action/mass tort; civil rights; business/commercial; employment; insurance; trust, probate and estates; and securities cases. She is available to conduct sessions in person, as well as virtually, for clients across the country.
Judge Demacopoulos’ strong understanding of Illinois law across industries and types of disputes has made her a leader within the legal community, She excels in taking on complex, multiparty cases and has been devoted to supporting and teaching the next generation of lawyers through her work as an adjunct professor with the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.
- Chris Poole, JAMS CEO
While on the bench in the Criminal Division, Judge Demacopoulos handled a high-volume felony courtroom, presiding over bench and jury trials, including financial crimes, official misconduct, and complex, multijurisdictional matters involving gangs and drug trafficking. This experience leveraged her proficiency with Illinois practice, especially around admissibility of forensic and expert testimony and complex, multiparty case management. Judge Demacopoulos has served as an adjunct professor in trial advocacy for the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law for over 35 years. Through her teaching, she has shared her wisdom and experience with generations of Illinois attorneys.
It’s my feeling that no one starts a lawsuit thinking they are going to lose, yet litigation always has a winner and a loser. A settlement that is achieved through ADR provides the parties with more options and a much better path to resolution.
- Hon. Anna H. Demacopoulos (Ret.)
Judge Demacopoulos earned her B.A. from Loyola University, Chicago, and her J.D. from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.
