Gandhi (Ret.) was honored with the Warren Knight Excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution Award from the Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel (AMEC). The award was presented at the Counsel of the Year Awards ceremony in Manhattan Beach, California, on March 6.
Judge Gandhi is a mediator and arbitrator with JAMS. He is also an owner and on the board of directors of JAMS. Judge Gandhi is known for his thorough, insightful, and candid approach to every engagement. The parties turn to Judge Gandhi to resolve complex disputes, particularly in the entertainment and media space—from iconic brands and major labels to top studios and well-known talent. He is regularly recruited by best-in-class industry lawyers to resolve their most critical and sensitive disputes.
The award is part of a series that recognizes the role of attorneys in the judicial process, popular culture and the entertainment industry. This year, the award was renamed in honor of Hon. H. Warren Knight, the founder of JAMS. The Association of Media and Entertainment Counsel is a 20-year-old organization comprised of more than 14,000 accomplished men and women working in a variety of executive roles including in-house counsel and business affairs attorneys at major entertainment and media companies and law firms. Before JAMS, Judge Gandhi served for eight years as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Central District of California, the nation’s largest federal court. Upon his appointment in 2010, Judge Gandhi was not only the first South Asian-American federal judge in California history, but at the then-age of 38, he was one of the youngest federal judges in the country at the time.
Before the bench, Judge Gandhi was a partner at the international law firm of Paul Hastings LLP. He spent 12 years litigating high-profile, high-dollar commercial cases and MDL/class actions in a variety of state and federal jurisdictions across the country.
