Chicago – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to announce that Hon. Morton Denlow (Ret.) has been honored with the Harris H. Agnew Service to Community Award by the Resolution Systems Institute (RSI). The award was presented as part of RSI’s 30th anniversary celebration on April 25.

This award recognizes individuals whose cumulative efforts substantially and meaningfully enhanced court ADR systems in Illinois. The award was renamed in 2011 to honor the contributions of Judge Harris H. Agnew, chair of the RSI Executive Committee from 1999 to 2011, former chief judge of Illinois 17th Judicial Circuit and unofficial "Johnny Appleseed" of court ADR throughout the state. RSI conducts research, provides mediation services and evaluates ADR systems to promote access to justice through cost-effective, timely and fair conflict resolution.

“We are so pleased to see Judge Denlow honored by the RSI for his decades of work supporting the advancement of ADR as a tool to resolve disputes across practice areas. He is a beacon within the legal community in Illinois and beyond, and we are grateful for his continued work on our JAMS panel. Congratulations to Judge Denlow for this outstanding recognition.”

Judge Denlow joined JAMS in 2012 following over 16 years of distinguished service as a magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. While on the bench, he presided over thousands of civil and criminal matters. He conducted over 2,000 settlement conferences and tried bench and jury trials, including complex commercial, employment, ERISA, intellectual property and civil rights cases.

Throughout his time at JAMS, Judge Denlow has served as a mediator and neutral evaluator and has mediated approximately 1,000 disputes, including 325 class action lawsuits. With over two decades of experience as a trial and appellate lawyer in complex commercial litigation and class action litigation, he aids parties in their assessment of litigated outcomes and he finds creative settlement pathways. Additionally, Judge Denlow is known for the development of his class action checklist and for his 7 C’s—the seven advantages of settlement over litigation.
