Michael A. Zuckerman, Esq., joins JAMS in Chicago as a seasoned dispute resolution professional. Passionate about his work, Mr. Zuckerman has handled more than 600 mediations and 100 arbitrations. He has a depth of skill in commercial, consumer and employment matters. As an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) professional, his practice has included many areas of law, including banking, business/commercial disputes, consumer, class action/mass tort, cyber law, employment and real estate. A leader in the ADR community, he teaches mediation and arbitration as an adjunct law professor.

In private practice, Mr. Zuckerman was a trial and appellate litigator at Jones Day. He represented clients in a variety of complex cases in federal and state court. He quickly became known for his skill in briefing complicated issues, developing legal strategy and negotiating settlements. He represented both plaintiffs and defendants.

Mr. Zuckerman previously clerked for federal judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

      • Arbitrated case involving wire fraud and suspicious transactions relating to personal and business banking accounts
      • Mediated claim for breach of cardmember agreement relating to past due balance and involving affirmative defenses and attorneys’ fees
      • As an advocate, represented client in dispute about enforceability of loan guarantees

      • Mediated claims against multiple defendants under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) relating to accuracy of reporting, third-party fraud and damages for emotional distress
      • Arbitrated several cases under the FCRA relating to inaccurate information, identity theft, dispute letters and internal policies and procedures
      • Mediated business divorce involving several LLCs in the transportation industry, including claims for breach of fiduciary duty, misappropriation, conversion, and access to books and records under the Illinois Corporations Act
      • Arbitrated case involving enforceability and interpretation of third-party payment guarantee by family member for resident of nursing home relating to unpaid balance
      • Mediated dispute between consumer and multinational online payment platform involving claim for return of frozen funds and counterclaim for breach of terms of service
      • Mediated breach of contract claim by public adjuster against insured for failure to pay after insurance company settled claim
      • Mediated contract disputes involving equipment rentals, catering companies, event and wedding planning companies, law firms, health insurers, dental practices, funeral homes, auto body shops, electronics repair companies, construction contractors, software startups, and tax preparation firms
      • Arbitrated breach of contract claim between manufacturer and component supplier involving issues of contract interpretation, assignment and damage calculations
      • Arbitrated dispute between operator of online marketplace and third-party seller regarding product quality and breach of marketplace agreement
      • Mediated dispute between family members involving oral loan agreements
      • Mediated dispute between members of faith-based organization for breach of contract related to oral agreement about revenue sharing from programming activity
      • Mediated claim by consumer against national retailer related to third-party gift card scam
      • Arbitrated dozens of cases for breach of warranty and violation of lemon laws relating to new automobiles, including luxury vehicles
      • Mediated disputes under the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act and for breach of contract relating to online purchases of vintage furniture, automobiles and diamond jewelry

      • As appointed commissioner on local zoning board in Illinois village, considered and voted on requests for variations from zoning code and made recommendations on proposed changes to code
